Summer vacation in Coachella Valley wasn’t our best decision thus far. We hadn’t even thought of Palm Springs existing in a desert until well after locking in our airBnB, so we were committed. But how bad could it be, really? Living in Dallas we’re used to triple-digit summers, and while locals swear it’s humid here this area of Texas is far drier than the swampy states I’ve lived in.
LOL, GUESS WHAT? THERE’S A HUGE DIFFERENCE!!!
Imagine stepping into an outdoor oven, everything immediately drying out: your eyes, skin, sinuses. You start feeling cold-like symptoms from the level of dryness you’re experiencing. Your clothing feels like it’s melting into you. Sweating is just part of existance. Hot asf.
Weather aside, Joshua Tree is mesmerizingly beautiful and Palm Springs’ mid-century modern vibes are carefree. No wonder gay men go there to sunbathe and die! If I had to choose a winter escape, this would be it.
I was prepared, though. Coola hooked me up with fun suncare treats to keep my skin healthy and safe. I’ve been a fan of Coola FOREVER! I always have Vanilla Peppermint SPF 15 lip balm in my bag and every summer I buy the newest yummy SPF spray. I love that several of their body SPF products double as a moisturizer, not an entirely common combo.
Classic Unscented Sport SPF 50 has been my go-to for like…4 years now? I keep a bottle on my vanity to protect my upper body, regular sun maintenance! On days I run I use this all over, including areas covered by clothing. It’s lightweight, absorbs quickly and doubles as a moisturizer.
Guava Mango Sport SPF 50 Spray is new this summer and it’s my favorite scent thus far! It screams summer, just delicious and fun to use. Like an SPF treat for the senses. I never use this as my primary protection but instead for touch ups between reapplying lotion, and just to get a wiff of the aroma. If you’ve been on the fence about any of the scented sprays TRY them!!
Classic Face Sport SPF 50 White Tea while I’m not a fan of Coola’s mineral formulas I enjoy their classic face SPF. Cucumber was my jam for the longest, but White Tea is even better. Light and refreshing in aroma, absorbs quickly without any residual white cast. Darker skin tones who have a hard time finding the perfect SPF, give this one a whirl. A note on the Sephora reviews: if you’re experiencing flaking with your sunscreen 1) make sure your skin is dry from your moisturizer and 2) don’t over use your product.
